Hi, I'm Ayako!

I grew up on Sado Island, where my family operated a long-established hotel founded by my grandfather. My father raised us as a single parent, teaching me resilience, empathy, and the true spirit of hospitality. Growing up in a multicultural family, I learned early the beauty of understanding and connecting across different cultures — a value that continues to shape my life today.

For over 20 years in Niigata, I’ve managed an English conversation school, welcoming teachers from around the world and helping them navigate visas, housing, and the everyday joys and challenges of life in Japan.

From my grandfather’s hotel to my own classroom, hospitality and cultural exchange have always been at the heart of what I do. Through Aya’s Japan Move Guide, I now share those same lessons — helping midlife dreamers start a meaningful new chapter in Japan with confidence and care.

Why I Created This Blog

Over the years, I realized my true calling: helping foreigners feel at home in Japan. Many of the people I’ve supported were in their 40s, 50s, and 60s — beginning second careers, retiring abroad, or simply seeking a new chapter.

This blog exists to make that transition easier. Here, you’ll find practical guides on visas, healthcare, housing, and money — alongside honest reflections from my own journey.

My Roadmap: Starting Fresh at 52

At 52, I’m also beginning again. While my life has had ups and downs, I’m committed to using the next decade to learn how Japanese people build wealth securely — not through risky investments, but with steady, practical strategies.

I’ll share what I discover so that foreigners can also live securely in Japan, with confidence and peace of mind.
